Reentry

Coming home is a process. We walk it with you.

When a young person returns home from detention or youth corrections, the first few weeks can shape what comes next. We help connect them with school, support, and trusted people.

48.5%

of young people leaving Colorado youth corrections were back in the system within three years. That is the lowest rate on record, and it is still half.

87%

of young people newly committed to Colorado’s Division of Youth Services needed mental health treatment.

What reentry support can include

Practical help, in the order it is needed.

  • A plan for the first 90 days

Written with the young person, not about them. Where they will be, who they can call, and what happens first.

  • Back to school, with the credits that count

Help re-enrolling, and making sure credits earned in youth corrections are recognized, which Colorado law requires. Special education plans picked back up.

  • Counseling and health care

Referrals to counseling, behavioral health and substance-use support, matched to what the young person wants.

  • Mentors, and support for the family

A consistent adult, and help for the parents or caregivers carrying the transition at home.

  • Work and training

Connections to job training, first jobs and career programs.

  • The basics

Referrals for housing, transportation and other needs that decide whether everything else works.

  • The legal side of coming home

Parole hearings, school disputes and sealing a record, through our legal help.

    Legal help

Some of this we do ourselves. Some of it means connecting you to a partner who does it well. We will always tell you which is which.

Your consent leads

Nothing happens without the young person.

The young person decides what to share, and who we talk to. We connect, we follow up, and we keep showing up. We do not take over.
